Will Patton Ensemble (Concert on the Common)

Long a favorite on the New England festival and concert scene, the Will Patton Ensemble has been “delivering gorgeous gypsy jazz, sultry swing and breezy Brazilian music that evokes smoky Parisian bistros and balmy tropical landscapes with an ever stronger breath of fresh air during it’s twenty-year existence” (Montpelier Times-Argus). Featuring mandolin, violin, guitar and string bass, they delight the audience and themselves with inspired improvisation set over solid grooves. “The players are so agile they barely seem to touch their instruments to make them sing,” writes Pamela Polston in Seven Days and “the result is as interesting conceptually as it is pleasing to the ear. It helps, of course, that the players are world class.” The band, consisting of many of Vermont’s finest musicians, was recently the subject of a cover story in Mandolin Magazine, which described the group as “. . . an astoundingly rich musical stew flavored with jazz, choro, folk and other influences . . . a unique blend of musicality, passion and respect that sets this band apart as a special experience.”
