Six Degrees with Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble
Counterpoint, Vermont’s Professional Vocal Ensemble joins with young singers from the area (the Adventure Kids Choir, led by Megan Helm) for a multidisciplinary concert program about climate change and what we can do to address it. Through music, narration, and video, Six Degrees educate students and community members about how climate change threatens our survival and how green alternatives, renewables, and sustainability can address these dangers. The title refers to the rise in world temperatures of six degrees Celsius that would imperil life on our planet, and also to the “six degrees of separation” that connect all of humanity. Because all six inhabited continents are affected by climate change, the concert includes songs from across the globe, and concludes with a joyous celebration of nature in balance.
This event is sponsored by Catamount Solar
Additional financial support was provided by Green Mountain Power.
Tables will be set up prior to the concert with information relating to climate change, energy efficiency, and other relevant topics. Concertgoers are encouraged to visit the exhibits and speak with representatives of the organizations on hand.
Founded by legendary choral director and arranger Robert De Cormier in 2000, and based in Montpelier, Counterpoint is dedicated to performing choral chamber music and engaging with student musicians in Vermont and beyond. Praised for their “clarity, skill” and “sophisticated musical expressiveness,” the ensemble presents concerts throughout New England and the surrounding region, and has toured the Midwest. Counterpoint has recorded seven CDs with Albany Records and has released four further CDs independently. Their repertory includes folksongs from around the world, African-American spirituals, sacred music of many traditions, and concert works by classical composers of the past and our own age.
